2017 Resolutions

Happy 2017!

I was a little sad to see 2016 go as it was a great year for my little family. But never the less it’s time to look ahead and start making some scrappy resolutions for this new and exciting year.

1. The number one thing I want to do this year is scrapbook with intent. Meaning not just a layout because the photo is cute but because of the awesome story behind it. I am going to allow my yearly albums to have 5 fluff layouts but the rest are going to be meaningful. Now let me explain why…

I do a TON of layouts within a years time, and I mean a ton. Now doing all of that means I get to be caught up faster with previous years but it is also showing me that I am going to have a lot of albums by the time my children are older. So to reduce this just a little I came up with my 5 fluff rule.

2. The second thing is still within this no fluff kick and some of you are not going to agree; so be prepared. I plan on going through my albums and pulling out the layouts that I have created that are fluff. Eek I know what am I thinking.

I figure if I pull out those layouts that don’t really have much meaning to them and re-use as much of the product as possible I can then take all those pictures and add them to some type of photo book. This will make it possible to still look at the cute pics I took through the years but keeps my scrapbook albums to the stories!

3. Project Life 2017! That’s right I am going to attempt to tackle PL again. I figured with our little bundle coming along in April it would be a great opportunity to document all those little pictures I will take like I did with Jaxon in 2014. I also plan on attempting to FINISH 2014 PL as well.

4. 99 Layouts- Yes you heard me I plan to create 99 layouts this year. Doing the math that will be about 8 layouts a month. I created a board on pinterest to help me get inspiration and I plan to keep myself accountable by blogging about each layout.

5. Finally I am planning on doing a fun thing on my YT Channel where I share a small stash of stash I own and do a giveaway. I have tons of beautiful products that are just not my style and sitting in my craft space. I would like to simplify by doing small stash giveaways.

So there you have it my 5 Scrappy Resolutions for 2017!

LETS DO THIS!!

SMS December Blog Hop

Welcome you should have hopped on over here from Lisa’s awesome creation over on her blog.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! At least for me anyways. I love December and everything it has to share with the world. I am one of those scrapbookers who does a December Daily and I have been doing it since 2013. I also tend to scrap a ton of Christmas layouts just because I love to use the products available for the season. So with both those things in mind I created TWO projects!

First is my 12×12 layout. I wanted to really help make this layout sing Christmas so I simply poured out my package of Cozy Sequins Mix and arranged it on some white cardstock by American Crafts before adding my photos and journaling. To round everything off I placed my title at the bottom and added a half border for a little more pop of red!layouts20

For my second project I took inspiration from the FB group Ali Edwards has put up for December Daily. A lovely lady named Michelle Hunter created an awesome Christmas tree made out of sequins and thread. I knew I didn’t want mine to be so traditional in colour and I definitely wanted to downsize the tree. Here is what I came up with using the new Build a Snowman sequins pack being released for December…layouts19

This will be for my December First in my DD! I am so in love with the way it turned out with all the fun shapes included in this collection.

So there you have it! My two takes on Christmas for this month. I hope you enjoy hoping along with all the other fun and magical projects for this month.

You are off to see the lovely Sarah M.

SMS Monthly Blog Hop-November

Welcome! You should have hopped over here from Lisa’s blog!

How!?! Just how is it already November, I swear we were just taking long summer evening walks around our neighbourhood last week? Oh well I guess I’ll surrender to the last month of Autumn. I actually really love this time of year with all the changes that go on around me everyday.

With that though in mind I decided to create one of Jaxon’s monthly layouts for his first year album. He is wearing a very bright blue shirt so I really wanted to play off that and the fact he was outside.img_3234

My first thought was to create my own background because I just got a ton of new shimmerz products from the SMS shop. I used Foiled Again Silver, Lemon Drop Yellow, Licorice Stick and Coral Me Crazy with a circular stencil I have in my stash. After that I laid a second stencil down and misted with my Heidi Ho Blue shimmerz mist. I was starting to really like the way it was looking but felt like it was missing one more element. That is where my black stitching came into play.

Then it was time to embellish my all time favourite part of a layout. I wanted to use the new 2 Cool 4 U sequin pack (this is where my colour inspiration came from) but I felt like it also needed a neutral colour added as well. That is how I got the idea to add the cork stars. After that it was just adding the sequins and a few finishing touches.layouts16

This layout may not scream fall but it does represent change in my sons life, which was good enough for me. I hope you enjoy the rest of the hop! You are off to see Sarah!

A Dream Come True

Lately I have been feeling like all I am doing is creating layouts to meet deadlines for my YT channel. Now don’t get me wrong I love all the commitments I have made and do enjoy creating for them all, the issue comes to the recording process. I use my phone and I can’t just press record and create a video for two reasons.

  1. There is just not enough storage space on my phone for that!
  2. I don’t create a layout in one sitting.

That’s right it normally takes me between two to three days or times back at my scrap table to complete a layout. I enjoy my process as it gives me time to really examine the layout but it can be hard when you are trying to meet deadlines.

All that being said I have decided to do a series on here where I create a layout without any recording involved. Just getting my scrap on when I can!

layouts10For this layout I wanted to play off of the layout I had just created for SMS back in September with the photo in the bottom right and then a title up in the top left!

I did enjoy using all the white space with actual white cardstock so I also decided to stick with that as well.

Here is what I came up with…

dsc05240I am so happy with how it turned out and best of all I was able to use some of the old Maggie Holmes stickers I have been hoarding forever! I am excited to get it put into my 2014 album.

Here are some more close ups…

Thanks for stopping by today. I really enjoyed this process without needing to record myself so expect more to come!

SMS October Blog Hop (National Card Making Day

Welcome you should have arrived from Lisa’s blog, wasn’t her card to die for!?!

How is it already October?? This is my favourite month of the year with all the changes that come along with it. Today we are celebrating National Card Making Day for the SMS Blog Hop, which to be honest I was a little apprehensive about. Why you may ask? Simple I have NEVER made a card before. Gasp I know, its crazy talk, but it’t true.

My goal was to make a card that really spoke to me and something I would want to receive. That’s when the idea came to make a card for my adorable 3 year old niece Keira.14369953_10154129171170756_1840814374649462336_n

She has just started a ballet class and I wanted to send her something happy and fitting. This is what I came up with…layouts11

I know it’t not fall themed at all but I feel like it was so fitting for the change she made in going into her first class of any kind and I wanted her to know she will always be loved.

I used an older chipboard sticker that I had no idea how I was ever going to use and added my favourite Hot Pink Hear Felties on top along with one of the beautiful flower sequins form Passion Flower sequin pack. Then I just sprinkled the Alma Mater sequins on the bottom to finish off the card.

In the end I am so happy with the way it turned out and even more excited for my niece to receive it in the mail!

Hope you enjoy the rest of the hop your now off to the fabulous Sarah M’s Blog. Have Fun!!

Minimalist Thursdays

If you have been following me on either my own channel or the SMS channel on youtube. You might have noticed I did a new series where I took something I love but can feel overwhelmed by and created a layout with it.

Originally I was going to do a blog post every week going over them layout by layout when it dawned on me it might be fun to see them all together as it would show the progression of how I kept them simple in an all around overview.

For the first episode I really wanted to focus on doing mixed media. I love getting messy and creating fun backgrounds with my products but I find its always a guessing game and I have thrown away a ton of backgrounds because they never turn out right. So instead I focused on just doing the mixed media with my Shimmerz dazzlerz and only on the glassine bags which helped minimize any chance of me not loving the outcome.Layouts3

For my next challenge I went with dealing with sequins in a fun and unique way that wouldn’t have me just clustering them in threes or in a pocket. Those are always my go to ways of using sequins so I wanted to get out of my comfort zone but not in such a way where the layout didn’t look like me. My end result was to line them up like I would use a border strip. I used the Hot Right Now Sequins which worked so well in helping me bring out a few pops of colour to my layout.Layouts4

Week three brought me to using the awesome felt shapes from the shop! Because the clouds were white I wanted to mix things up and use a coloured cardstock for this one. I chose a sky blue for obvious reasons and used it to help make the felt clouds pop off the page. Then for a neat contrast and to help tie in the photo of me walking I used the red-fettie hearts! All in all I think it turned out really neat!Layouts5

And finally week four brought me back to sequins. Again I really wanted to find a way to highlight them in a way that was different than anything I had done before. So when I saw this pattern paper with the gold dots on it, I knew it would be the perfect solution to place the passion flower sequins on top which would make it look random without actually being random! I was also following the mood board from the August challenge on the SMS 15 minutes to scrap FB group so my colours were already chosen for me! Layouts6

And there you go! My four layouts for August Minimalist Thursday. Coming in September I will be switching things up and doing my layouts on Tuesdays with the title Trendy Tuesday. I can’t wait to show you what I have come up with!

Family Memories-2013 Album Share

DSC04574

I am sorry it’s been so long since I posted a layout from my 2013 album! Life has been a little crazy this summer. But I am back and hope to get a layout a week if not more done so I can catch up and move on to my 2014 album (which of course is not actually done yet but lets not go there)

This was one of the layouts I created towards the end of completing this album and when I look at it I can kind of tell. Don’t get me wrong my style is still there but it has a rushed look to it as I was just really wanting to finally have an album FINISHED!

It was also a hard layout to create as this was the last photo I have with my Grandpa who has since passed away.

My entire life they lived way up north Quisnel in the winter and Kelowna in the summer, so when they decided to move down to the mainland to be closer to everyone it was so nice. I was able to come and visit them almost every week.

This photo is also really special because it was taken right before I found out I was pregnant with Jaxon. I can tell by the roundness in my face now but back then I had no idea such a miracle was on its way.

This was a very simple layout with a simple message about loving how close they are to me now but I am happy its in my album so I can always remember that time with them.

xoxo.Christy
