Three Projects In One!!

Happy Wednesday!

I started working on my first layout for my new season of Obsessed with Katty & Christy when I realized I could combine it with a Paper Issues Challenge and my own 99 Layout Challenge. In my goal to create layouts with intent behind them I find this really falls into that category.

My main priority was to follow the recipe challenge Katty and I had created for this first episode.15902539_413677195644911_1006828254_o

Long Title: Paper Issues Challenge

For the past few months I have noticed myself see a phrase or word that really spoke to me and made me think “hey this would make an awesome title for a layout”. Of course I would neveb91c25130bf2b51589a73633db95bafbr remember all of these (especially with the baby brain I have going on right now) so I created a board on my Pinterest account; “Titles“. When looking for my long title for this layout I went straight there and found the perfect quote…
Around the same time I also noticed that my new favourite scrappy FB group,  Paper Issues Friends & Family, was hosting a challenge called “Working Titles” and the goal for this month is to create a large title. Only I am taking that as meaning a long title! Two for one and yet very meaningful.

Design Idea: 99 Layout Challenge

While trying to decide how I was going to create the design for my layout, it571b54d8693273c2e73bc1d4d612e663 hit me I could just use one of my inspiration layouts I have saved for my 99 layout challenge. I scrolled through and found this really fun layout by the amazing Tracy Banks (Mercy Tiara on YT). It had all the right design elements I was looking for and enough pattern paper ideas to help get me to use the four papers we had chosen for this episode. It also lent itself to being able to use the long title I needed as well.

The best part is following this scraplift made my layout come together super fast and I already knew it would look good because I could see a finished product before even begging. This is what I love about scraplifting and this challenge I have set for myself this year.

Final Elements & Thoughts

As stated above this layout came together very quickly and I am in love with the final product. What I didn’t mention was that there is actually a fourth element to this layout. While trying to figure out what photos I wanted to use, I found myself searching through my box of layouts I want to re-do and came across this one…layouts5And though I still like the layout and think it would be okay to keep when I look at my album right beside it is a layout that looks so similar to it and I just wasn’t happy with the overall feeling this layout gave me.

I carefully took it apart and used as many of the elements as possible along with my other challenges to help create my final layout…dsc05479

I am so much happier with this layout and it fits so much better in my album when flipping through. I created a flap and my other two pictures are hiding behind the top one. Of course this being a YT series I also have a process video if you are interested in seeing me put it all together here. But I really wanted to share my entire though process with you for this.

I hope you enjoyed and I will talk to you soon!

xoxo..Christy

SMS/Cut2Luv Product Swap Blog Hop

Hey Everyone and Happy Tuesday! I hope you have been enjoying your morning coffee while hopping through this fun product swap blog hop we have for you today. Hopefully you came to my post from the flower master Valerie’s Blog.

I am sure you have noticed by now not only did we do a product swap with Cut2Luv but we also were all being inspired by the same sketch…15178942_10211865938990519_1282981339540046324_n

To try something new for myself I took on the sketch very literally. layouts3-3

Doesn’t it just look like you could dive into those photos and feel the cold!?! I decided to take the baby its cold outside from Cut2Luv “Let it Snow” badges to help highlight having black in three areas (I love my triangular designs you will see it often with me). Then I went sequin crazy!! Here is the list of the 5 different packs I picked from…

  1. Let’s Be Mermaids (the big blue ones used as my border)
  2. Cozy (all those fun snowflake sequins you see and the small blue ones used as my border)
  3. Amore (the purple and pink sequins in the middle of the snowflakes)
  4. Build a Snowman (the blue flat sequins in the middle of the snowflakes)
  5. Coffee Break (the peach/off white ones in the middle of the snowflakes)
I hope you enjoy what I’ve created for you today and enjoy the rest of the hop! Remember to leave comments on all the designers blogs to be entered to win a couple fabulous prizes from each company!
Now you’re off to Beth’s blog. I know you’ll just love her project!

First Layout of 2017

I was so excited to get a little scrappy time in on New Years Day this past Sunday. I wasn’t really sure what I wanted to get started on. I have a few layouts that need to be done for SMS and the next season of Obsessed, but I just wasn’t feeling that. So instead I went onto the Paper Issues FB Group and found a fun challenge to scrap-lift the oh so talented Mary Ann Jenkins. Here is the layout we were to use for inspiration.15822735_10154848450264254_8157871476846810073_n

I loved the idea of using this to help kick start a layout for myself. And with my new goal to re-scrap with intention I decided this layout was going to be the first one that got torn apart…dsc04814

Want to know why this was the one?!?

It’s simple, the design is just not right. There journaling is in a very odd place compared to the rest of the embellishments and the whole block just looks like it’s floating in the middle of the page with no anchoring point.

So ever so carefully I took apart my layout and came up with this to re-place it.

dsc05471

Same title, same journaling and same embellishments! But I was able to add another picture to help tell the story and I didn’t use any white cardstock (I have been doing that so much lately and I want to change that).

This was the perfect challenge for me to help start my 2017 off in the right scrappy direction. I love this little story that shows how active Jaxon was as a baby, especially now when I can compare it to how active of a toddler he also is.

2017 Resolutions

Happy 2017!

I was a little sad to see 2016 go as it was a great year for my little family. But never the less it’s time to look ahead and start making some scrappy resolutions for this new and exciting year.

1. The number one thing I want to do this year is scrapbook with intent. Meaning not just a layout because the photo is cute but because of the awesome story behind it. I am going to allow my yearly albums to have 5 fluff layouts but the rest are going to be meaningful. Now let me explain why…

I do a TON of layouts within a years time, and I mean a ton. Now doing all of that means I get to be caught up faster with previous years but it is also showing me that I am going to have a lot of albums by the time my children are older. So to reduce this just a little I came up with my 5 fluff rule.

2. The second thing is still within this no fluff kick and some of you are not going to agree; so be prepared. I plan on going through my albums and pulling out the layouts that I have created that are fluff. Eek I know what am I thinking.

I figure if I pull out those layouts that don’t really have much meaning to them and re-use as much of the product as possible I can then take all those pictures and add them to some type of photo book. This will make it possible to still look at the cute pics I took through the years but keeps my scrapbook albums to the stories!

3. Project Life 2017! That’s right I am going to attempt to tackle PL again. I figured with our little bundle coming along in April it would be a great opportunity to document all those little pictures I will take like I did with Jaxon in 2014. I also plan on attempting to FINISH 2014 PL as well.

4. 99 Layouts- Yes you heard me I plan to create 99 layouts this year. Doing the math that will be about 8 layouts a month. I created a board on pinterest to help me get inspiration and I plan to keep myself accountable by blogging about each layout.

5. Finally I am planning on doing a fun thing on my YT Channel where I share a small stash of stash I own and do a giveaway. I have tons of beautiful products that are just not my style and sitting in my craft space. I would like to simplify by doing small stash giveaways.

So there you have it my 5 Scrappy Resolutions for 2017!

LETS DO THIS!!

SMS December Blog Hop

Welcome you should have hopped on over here from Lisa’s awesome creation over on her blog.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! At least for me anyways. I love December and everything it has to share with the world. I am one of those scrapbookers who does a December Daily and I have been doing it since 2013. I also tend to scrap a ton of Christmas layouts just because I love to use the products available for the season. So with both those things in mind I created TWO projects!

First is my 12×12 layout. I wanted to really help make this layout sing Christmas so I simply poured out my package of Cozy Sequins Mix and arranged it on some white cardstock by American Crafts before adding my photos and journaling. To round everything off I placed my title at the bottom and added a half border for a little more pop of red!layouts20

For my second project I took inspiration from the FB group Ali Edwards has put up for December Daily. A lovely lady named Michelle Hunter created an awesome Christmas tree made out of sequins and thread. I knew I didn’t want mine to be so traditional in colour and I definitely wanted to downsize the tree. Here is what I came up with using the new Build a Snowman sequins pack being released for December…layouts19

This will be for my December First in my DD! I am so in love with the way it turned out with all the fun shapes included in this collection.

So there you have it! My two takes on Christmas for this month. I hope you enjoy hoping along with all the other fun and magical projects for this month.

You are off to see the lovely Sarah M.

SMS Monthly Blog Hop-November

Welcome! You should have hopped over here from Lisa’s blog!

How!?! Just how is it already November, I swear we were just taking long summer evening walks around our neighbourhood last week? Oh well I guess I’ll surrender to the last month of Autumn. I actually really love this time of year with all the changes that go on around me everyday.

With that though in mind I decided to create one of Jaxon’s monthly layouts for his first year album. He is wearing a very bright blue shirt so I really wanted to play off that and the fact he was outside.img_3234

My first thought was to create my own background because I just got a ton of new shimmerz products from the SMS shop. I used Foiled Again Silver, Lemon Drop Yellow, Licorice Stick and Coral Me Crazy with a circular stencil I have in my stash. After that I laid a second stencil down and misted with my Heidi Ho Blue shimmerz mist. I was starting to really like the way it was looking but felt like it was missing one more element. That is where my black stitching came into play.

Then it was time to embellish my all time favourite part of a layout. I wanted to use the new 2 Cool 4 U sequin pack (this is where my colour inspiration came from) but I felt like it also needed a neutral colour added as well. That is how I got the idea to add the cork stars. After that it was just adding the sequins and a few finishing touches.layouts16

This layout may not scream fall but it does represent change in my sons life, which was good enough for me. I hope you enjoy the rest of the hop! You are off to see Sarah!

A Dream Come True

Lately I have been feeling like all I am doing is creating layouts to meet deadlines for my YT channel. Now don’t get me wrong I love all the commitments I have made and do enjoy creating for them all, the issue comes to the recording process. I use my phone and I can’t just press record and create a video for two reasons.

  1. There is just not enough storage space on my phone for that!
  2. I don’t create a layout in one sitting.

That’s right it normally takes me between two to three days or times back at my scrap table to complete a layout. I enjoy my process as it gives me time to really examine the layout but it can be hard when you are trying to meet deadlines.

All that being said I have decided to do a series on here where I create a layout without any recording involved. Just getting my scrap on when I can!

layouts10For this layout I wanted to play off of the layout I had just created for SMS back in September with the photo in the bottom right and then a title up in the top left!

I did enjoy using all the white space with actual white cardstock so I also decided to stick with that as well.

Here is what I came up with…

dsc05240I am so happy with how it turned out and best of all I was able to use some of the old Maggie Holmes stickers I have been hoarding forever! I am excited to get it put into my 2014 album.

Here are some more close ups…

Thanks for stopping by today. I really enjoyed this process without needing to record myself so expect more to come!
