Weekend Challenge “To Die For”

Happy Monday! I am hoping to have two posts up today as yesterday was filled with tons of pictures!

This weekend the lovely Kelly got to host the weekend challenge for Victoria Maire FB Group. The moment I saw what it was I just knew this was going to be a fun layout! But I am getting ahead of myself. Here is Kelly’s fun challenge…

This weekend’s challenge is to take an opened pack of die cuts and use up as much as you can.

Now I am not one to use the same collection on 1 layout and that goes with ephemera as well. I just tend to like when my layouts are a little more eclectic. The first thing I did was went through my pictures to figure out what photo I thought should be scrapped. I kept going back and forth between these two: Shot 10 FIltered0110

I spent an entire hour (Yes I mean 60 WHOLE minutes) going through EVERY piece of pretty paper I owned to find just the perfect choice. I ended up with BOBUNNY’s collection Baby Bump which is absolutely beautiful! I finally decided if I am using a collection with the word baby in it I was scrapping the 1st photo.

With those two decisions made I went to where I store all my ephemera and just picked all the random bits that I thought would go with the colours in the pattern paper. I went with a lot of none theme pieces so the whole layout wouldn’t scream out baby (though I did pick a chipboard piece that literally said baby).

So by this time it has been a good part of my Saturday come and gone. I decided to just let it be and I would pick it back up in the morning. Which is exactly what I did and within twenty-five minutes (minus the ten minutes I let my misting dry), my layout was complete and I really enjoy the way it turned out!

I of course added gold into the layout (though I do plan on creating a layout soon with NO GOLD very soon). And the biggest, craziest thing of all is that I didn’t use a title (EEK!!!). This layout will be the first one in Jaxon’s baby album so I decided I liked it without a title but let me tell you it is really weird for me not to add one and I still am looking at the layout now thinking it’s not complete because there isn’t one.

That’s it guys, my layout for the first weekend challenge of June! I did create a process video for this layout which I am hoping will be up sometime early thing week!

Before & After Hump Day Challenge

It is June which means my favourite FB group has started the fall design team challenges. I am not on the DT until the new year but I really want to show my support to all the other DT members so my goal is to do a blog post about every challenge and my take on them. The lovely Colleen is up first for the Hump Day Challenge and here is what she came up with…

The challenge is to scrap 2 photos that are taken at different times for the same event, time, etc.

11401216_10153378703087392_3755649455584921413_nAt first my inclination was to grab some photos of Jaxon but when I was searching through my photo these two tiny square photos came up and I just knew they were the ones I would be using for this challenge. The next step of course was deciding how to create a layout with such tiny photos, I’m talking these are 2×2! I contemplated doing an entire 12×12 or even 8 1/2×11 but in the end I decided it would be best to sort through all the pretty papers that came in the recollections mini albums I bought on clearance last year.

After finding the perfect fit I then challenged myself to only use the scraps on my desk to embellish this layout. (Let me mention I have been sorting through my ephemera so they were on my desk at the time). I truly enjoy the way the layout turned out…

The journaling is a little rough to read but it says…

Today I came across these two tiny photos. Looking at them it dawned on my out of all the features in my face that have changed over my almost 28 years, my smile has always remained the same.

I enjoy smiling and not just to the camera. I like to smile at elderly couples walking by and holding hands. I like to smile at children as they play without a care in the world.

Over the years I am learning to accept myself for who I am and I love that even through the hard times I have always been able to produce a smile. And I pray that as Jaxon goes through like he too will always find something to smile about!

Here are some closer looks at my embellishment clusters…DSC03968 DSC03969

All in all I am pretty pleased with the way this layout turned out. I will be putting it in my stories album with the rest of my childhood stories.
